With entertainment being one of the three main pillars of TED, this year’s roster of performers truly represents Toronto’s vibrant culture and breadth of multi-disciplinary talent. Spanning from ballet to soul and classical remixes, each set is bound to leave you energized an inspired. Here are TEDxToronto’s remaining 2015 performers:
416BEATS is Toronto’s premiere entertainment drumline, comprised of Ontario’s top marching percussionists. They combine the power, energy and sound of marching percussion along with precision, visuals and raw entertainment.
Birds of Bellwoods is a Toronto-based quartet playing folk from a unique angle. Known for lush harmonies, rustic melodies and haunting lyricism, they are Stevie Joffe (Mandolin/Lead Vocals), Adrian Morningstar (Guitar/Vocals), Chris Blades (Banjo/ Vocals), and Kintaro Akiyama (Upright Bass/Vocals).
The Soul Motivators are the hottest property in Canadian funk. Formed in 2012 and inspired by a multi-cultural urban lifestyle in downtown Toronto, their repertoire blends funk, soul, hip-hop breaks and psychedelic beat. Featuring numerous veterans of Toronto’s thriving live music scene, they play everything from jazz to reggae and soul – and their wide influences come together to create a unique metropolitan style.
Spin Cycle is a genre-defying, innovative three-stage project rooted in authenticity. With classical works from the Afiara Quartet being specially remixed by renowed DJ Skratch Bastid, Spin Cycle is knocking down musical silos, and allowing conversations across a creative void.
