Our fourth annual conference will take on a mystical quality, as we explore the theme of ALCHEMY — the magical process of taking ordinary common elements, usually of little value, and combining them to make something extraordinary, of great value.
It's an out-of-this-world theme for what will be an out-of-this world conference.
This year’s speakers will show that “intellectual chemistry” can be the catalyst for exceptional ideas and profound change. Attendees will also get the opportunity to generate brain power and exchange ideas at the conference.
Much like alchemists in the Middle Ages, TED speakers are innovators, constantly conjuring up new ideas and realms of possibility. Afshin Mousavian, TEDxToronto Co-Chair, has said "alchemy" is a word that evokes curiosity. And it's curiosity that will lead to the development of ideas worth spreading.
The magic will happen on October 26, 2012 at The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts — our biggest venue yet.
TEDxToronto is also launching its search for four community-nominated speakers, who will join a line-up to be announced in July. The nomination process is open until July 1. The community-nominated speaker applications forms are now live and more information can be found at TEDxToronto.com. Last year’s nominated speakers included: grade 12 student Nicholas Schiefer, chef Joshna Maharaj and ‘eyeborg’ Rob Spence. Check out TEDxToronto 2011 talks here.
